Walking into a church for the first time can feel like a big step. Whether you’ve never been to church before, haven’t been for many years, or you’re simply looking for somewhere new to belong, it’s completely normal to have questions.

At St Saviour’s, we know that visiting somewhere unfamiliar can feel daunting. That’s why we want to make your first visit as easy and welcoming as possible. We hope this page answers some of the questions you might be asking, but if there’s anything else you’d like to know, we’d love to hear from you before you come.
Most of all, we want you to know this: there’s a place here for you.

Our main service begins at 10.45am and usually lasts around an hour.

Each week we gather to worship God through singing, prayer, readings from the Bible and a talk that helps us explore what those readings mean for everyday life. Sometimes we celebrate Holy Communion together, and every service includes time to pray for our community and the wider world.

You don’t need to know when to stand, sit or respond. Everything is explained as we go, and you’re welcome simply to listen and take it all in if that’s what feels most comfortable.

St Saviour’s is on Winbolt Street in Great Moor, Stockport, and is easy to reach whether you’re travelling by car, bus or on foot. You can also access the Church via the garden at the front of the building which opens onto the A6. There is parking available nearby, and our building is accessible for those with mobility needs..

People often worry they’ll either be overdressed or underdressed, but the truth is you’ll see all sorts on a Sunday morning. Some people come in shirts or dresses, others arrive in jeans, trainers and jumpers.

There isn’t a dress code because we’re much more interested in welcoming people than worrying about what they’re wearing. Come in whatever you feel comfortable in.

Many people do. Our welcome team will greet you as you arrive and can help you find a seat if you’d like them to. Equally, if you’d prefer to slip quietly into a pew and take things at your own pace, that’s absolutely fine too. After the service, we serve tea, coffee and biscuits. There’s never any pressure to stay, but it’s a lovely opportunity to meet people if you’d like to.

Children are a valued part of our church family, and we love having them with us.

During most Sunday services we offer activities designed especially for children, helping them explore the Christian faith in ways that are fun, engaging and appropriate for their age. If they’re feeling a little shy on their first visit, that’s perfectly okay. They can stay with you in the service if they’d prefer.

Families don’t have to worry about children making a bit of noise or needing to move around—we understand, and we genuinely welcome them.

Not at all. You’re welcome to sing, pray and take part as much or as little as you feel comfortable. Nobody will put you on the spot or expect you to do anything you’re unsure about.

If we are celebrating Holy Communion, everyone is welcome to come forward. If you’re baptised and usually receive Communion in your own church, you’re warmly invited to receive here too. If not, you’re very welcome to come for a prayer and blessing, or simply remain in your seat. We’ll explain what to do during the service.
