The arrival of a new baby or child is one of life’s greatest joys, and many families choose to mark that special moment by giving thanks to God in a service of baptism.

Baptism is much more than a tradition. It’s a celebration of God’s love and the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith. During the service, we thank God for the gift of life, pray for the person being baptised, and make promises to encourage them as they grow in faith.

Becoming part of the Church Family

At St Saviour’s, we believe baptism is about becoming part of the family of the Church, not simply a service on one particular day.

That’s why we encourage families to begin getting to know us before the baptism takes place. We warmly invite you to join us at our Sunday service, meet members of the congregation, and experience the life of the church together.

We know that visiting somewhere new can feel daunting, but you’ll receive a warm welcome, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for us to get to know one another before the special day arrives.

The Baptism Service

Each baptism service is a joyful celebration shared with family, friends and the wider church community.

During the service there will be readings, prayers and promises made by parents and godparents. Water is poured over the candidate’s head as a sign of new life in Christ, and we pray for God’s blessing upon them.

We’ll guide you through everything in advance, so there’s no need to worry if you’ve never been to a baptism before.
